Precarious, Precarious, Precarious is divided in three units. In the First Unit, the dissertation proposes a theory of "Performative Historiography," by approximating philosophy of history and performance art theory to discuss the notions of historical archive, historical mimesis, historical experience, and historiography's temporalities by privileging the notions of embodiment, action, fragment, phenomenology, and paradox. The Second and Third Units are introduced by a glossary of keywords that delineate Rio de Janeiro's bio-poetical and bio-political landscape: the "Archival Fragments of Rio de Janeiro." Unit Two ("Arthur Bispo do Rosario's World Making") and Unit Three ("Lygia Clark's Body Making") are historiographies critically presenting and discussing the work of two Brazilian creators producing on the edge of the dissolution of disciplines, artistic genres, and aesthetic canons. Bispo's and Clark's works both challenge classical historiographic models and contribute for a reflection on performative historiography by significantly energizing the discussions on phenomenology, relationality, representation, paradox, body theory, objecthood, and post-colonial politics and culture in the Brazilian context. The dissertation advances that their unique contributions also recreate and reframe the debate on contemporary performance theory and practice. Precarious, Precarious, Precarious proposes the concept of "precariousness" as an instrument for theoretical, corporeal, and critical intervention in performance studies.
