摘要

At this time when NASA, military and industry are interested in space communication, the existing TCP/IP protocol suite is not suitable for space communication. Space communication deals with long transmission delays, intermittent connectivity, and high bit error rate, which are not suitable for TCP. CFDP (CCSDS File Delivery Protocol) is a standard, tailored to help transfer data to and from space to the earth, as required by a number of space agencies like NASA, NASDA, ESA, CNES, etc. CFDP transfers the files to and from mass memory located in the space segment, thereby removing the major hindrance in space communication which is caused by the intermittent connectivity of links. Though there has been ample amount of research done on acknowledged mode of operation of CFDP over TCP, there has not been any research done on unacknowledged mode of operation. With TCP acting as the transport layer protocol, all the file retransmissions and reordering of packets are handled by TCP.;Through this thesis, we provide the analysis of unacknowledged mode of CFDP and its comparison with acknowledged mode of CFDP, TCP-Linux, and SCPS Vegas.
