Mitered ogee crests can be a viable alternative to the typical broad crest and ogee crest designs currently used on stepped spillway structures. A mitered crest will effectively reduce both the construction costs and time of completion with minimal impact to spillway discharge capacity. A new mitered crest design exhibits similar hydraulic capacity as the ogee crest but utilizes the simpler and more economical construction techniques used to create the broad crest. With such characteristics associated with it, a mitered crest design becomes a welcomed alternative for use in the industry.; The focus of this study is a direct comparison of the traditional ogee crest and broad crest designs against the proposed mitered crest design. Data is presented as a rating curve to quantify the flow capacities of the three crests. With the positive results indicated by this study, a new, viable alternative to a stepped spillway crest design is available.
