A site specific propagation simulation model has previously been developed at Utah State University that integrates indoor and outdoor propagation environments. This integrated indoor/outdoor model uses a 2D ray-tracing method for indoor propagation simulation and the Vertical Plane Launch (VPL) method to model outdoor path segments. The integrated model is more versatile than the two individual models, since realistic propagation scenarios are not confined to a single type of environment. In addition to this ray-tracing tool, a wide-band channel sounder has been developed at Utah State University to measure and estimate direction of arrivals, time delays, and path loss for radio propagation channels. A study is performed in which the outputs of the measurement system and propagation simulation model are compared and contrasted. The understanding of these complementary approaches will enable a more thorough understanding of behavior, measurement techniques, and current modeling of radio frequency (RF) propagation. In this way, each system is used as a feedback mechanism for the other, revealing specific areas of enhancement to increase the accuracy and efficiency of each.
