摘要

As the stimulus for all action, energy pervades every aspect of social life and requires a global vision to be fully understood. Its place in development, so often ignored, deserves critical attention from those interested in community growth. Prince Edward Island's unique experiences with renewable energy provide an ideal environment for an analysis of the connection between the two. By using the framework inherent in Pieterse's Critical Holism, this thesis will help advance an academic vision of energy, not merely based on particular issues such as fossil fuel availability or the area-specific uses of new technologies, but on a general understanding of energy as a requisite to all forms of development.
