Archives, libraries and universities in Mexico, the United States of America, and England were searched for authentic sources of information regarding the life and the work of Joseph Lancaster of England in the field of education, educational philosophy, and the education of teachers in the Republic of Mexico from 1825 to 1925. The work of Joseph Lancaster, "the father of modern mass education and teacher training," has been studied on how it strived to teach the Mexicans the rudiments of learning in reading, writing and arithmetic. The Mexican centralist system of public education was analyzed in relationship to Joseph Lancaster's theories, methods and processes. The teaching methods, philosophy, and the results of the Lancastrian System are critically presented, and finally, the traditional education system is surveyed during the period of 1825 to 1925 starting with the Mexican War of Independence from the Empire of Spain (1821--1825) to the Revolution of 1910 with the end of the Roman Catholic Church-Conservative Political Movements (1910--1925). The philosophy of the Mexican educational system is thoroughly reviewed as well as an extensive biography of Joseph Lancaster of England and his legacy to Mexican education and its philosophy of education. Practical recommendations are made relating to the manner in which the present educational system can utilize the 100 year historical experience of the Mexican modern epoch as influenced by Joseph Lancaster of England and his Lancasterian system of education with its mutual assistance of learning, monitorial methods to teaching, and innovative approach for curriculum and instruction. This work reflects the world influence of Joseph Lancaster of England, the Royal Lancasterian Society and the British Foreign School Society of Brunel University. Osterley Campus, Isleworth-London.
