摘要

Operations in the littoral pose tremendous challenges to naval commanders. In this environment, contact identification and determination of intent---Situation and Threat Assessment---have become exponentially harder. Potentially hostile contacts can be mixed in with non-combatants, or pop out from hidden areas, giving next to no reaction time for classification and determination of intent.; This thesis studies the applicability of Fuzzy Logic in assisting naval operators in managing the Situation and Threat Assessment problem in a littoral environment. A modular simulation framework was developed to support a fuzzy Knowledge-Based System (KBS) system. A number of scenarios, involving air contacts in a littoral environment, were run to compare the assessment of the KBS model to the intuitive assessment of human operators. The results showed that the correlation between the two assessments was high, and that Fuzzy Logic is appropriate for reasoning under the uncertain conditions relevant to Situation and Threat Assessment.
