Purpose. To determine if source of feeding and/or infant age at diagnosis of cystic fibrosis had any effect on nutritional status and subsequent growth accretion, and to identify predictors for poor growth in undiagnosed patients.; Methods. Data was collected from medical and clinic charts for subjects diagnosed with cystic fibrosis before 1 year of age. Groups of interest included "early" diagnosis (before 9 weeks of age), "late" diagnosis (after 9 weeks of age), "breastfed at diagnosis," and "not breastfed at diagnosis."; Results. Growth of breastfed children did not differ significantly from that of formula-fed children. Age at diagnosis had a significant effect on growth accretion at all ages, with "early" diagnosis predicting more growth. Other identified predictors of growth included blood albumin levels at diagnosis, gender, age at diagnosis, and whether the child had a family history of cystic fibrosis.
