摘要

The purpose of the current quantitative descriptive study was to examine the extent of the relationship between project risk management and IT project success. The independent variables were: (a) the organizational leadership mandate on project risk management, (b) the current state of project risk management practices, and (c) the adoption of project risk management practices. Three research questions and three hypotheses were identified for the current study. The current study made use of a structured questionnaire administered through an online survey. The sample size represented 510 PMP certified participants that completed the online survey questionnaire; out of the study population of approximately 10,000 PMI IS COP members. The findings of the current study revealed a statistically significant relationship between the project risk management and IT project success. The results emanating from the current study may add to the existing project management knowledge area; as it could be used to explore project risk management outcomes that could affect IT project success. The exploratory nature of the current study may provide insightful findings, which could better inform and instruct project management practitioners of the facets of project risk management that may improve IT project success.
