The current work reviewed articles pertaining to resilience and coping in African American, Latino and Latino American, Asian and Asian American, and Native American populations to identify cultural differences in resilience and coping. Twenty-nine peer reviewed articles utilizing quantitative, qualitative, and mixed design methodologies were reviewed. Recommendations were made pertaining to theoretical and methodological issues identified in the review. In addition, various clinical recommendations and research recommendations were also provided, including the development of psychometric instruments based on an accurate theoretical understanding of the specific cultural values and attitudes associated with particular cultural groups. Moreover, resilience research would be greatly advanced through increased use of qualitative or mixed design studies, longitudinal research designs, acculturation and enculturation measures, and community samples.
