A systematic evaluation of information technology project managers and organizational project management maturity.

This research is an empirical investigation of Information Technology Project Management and Organizational Project Management Maturity. The research uses Kerzner's Level-3: Singular Methodology tool to evaluate the Project Management Maturity (PMM) levels of working professions taking graduate courses in Information Technology, Engineering, and Business. Based on an overall mean PMM score of 126.29, the study results show that organizations are probably just providing lip service to project management. In this analysis of the 116 survey participants, three were in the upper maturity range of 169–210; 21 were in the range 147–168; 91 were in the range 80–146; and one was below 80. The analysis of the participants also included an expanded range score analysis between 142–173 that included 32 participants and a data set that represented participants with Software Development Project Management experience that included 34 participants.; The data range 147–168 produced a moderately significant score for three PMM variables, Process, Culture, and Training and Education. Higher scores of these variables were associated with higher PMM scores. The data range 80–146 indicates that the PMM variables had no influence on the PMM Level-3 scores. All six of the variables in this range were significantly low. In the expanded data range 142–173, none of the PMM variables had a significant association to the PMM score. The Software Development Project Management experienced participants produced a moderately significant score for Process and Training and Education. These results indicate that the research participants had a high dependency on Process and Training and Education.
