Microcontrollers, as computing entities, lack many of the necessary hardware resources and consistent language implementations that would otherwise give them a place in mainstream programming. A shift toward the generalization of microcontroller-based applications would certainly represent an important advance in microcontroller-based software design. With the commencement of this shift as a goal, this work seeks to found and implement a comprehensive non-compiler-based system for creating and implementing applications for microcontrollers.; In this system, a language, composed of condition and action-based rules, is used to form programs. These rulesets are sent directly to a microcontroller by an interface program. The Ruleset Runtime Environment (RRE), which is the interpreter that is running on the microcontroller, carries out the rulesets and acts as an operating system by receiving and administrating rulesets, and corresponding with the interface program. The RRE and rulesets were successfully implemented and tested on multiple platforms.
