摘要

The Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP) targets agricultural landowners with financial and technical assistance as incentives. Knowledge of WRP participant attitudes towards wetlands provides valuable information on how to encourage landowners to apply for wetlands restoration programs. This study evaluates the WRP by focusing on landowners enrolled in and withdrawn from the WRP in New York State. In this study, the relationship between landowner attitudes of wetlands, their demographics, and their land attributes, and their reasons for enrollment or withdrawal are investigated through a quantitative survey. Semi-structured mail questionnaires are used for data collection with the intent of generalizing from the statewide population of enrolled and withdrawn agricultural landowners. Results are compiled and analyzed statistically, and a relationship is determined. Wildlife habitat and natural beauty are among the top wetland attitudes and top reasons for enrollment. Reasons for withdrawal include dissatisfaction with design or plan and financial reasons.
