摘要

The Topaz oil field is located in northeast Texas in eastern Red River County approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) west of the town of Avery. The reservoir is the Clarksville Sandstone, which is the updip stratigraphic equivalent of the upper Jurassic Smackover Limestone of the Louark Group.; The Clarksville Sandstone is stratigraphically below the upper to middle Jurassic Haynesville Formation of the Cotton Valley Group and above undivided, metamorphosed and tilted beds of Paleozoic age. Sedimentation occurred along the northern margin of the proto-Gulf of Mexico rift basin. The erosion of highlands surrounding the rift basins resulted in development of extensive alluvial fans. A series of shallow marine transgressions in the area caused mobilization of older Triassic and Paleozoic sediments. These inundations reworked mid- and distal-alluvial fan sediments by wave and tidal processes, thus resulting in alluvial fan/fan delta deposits.; Diagenetic analysis of the reservoir sand indicates a shallow to moderate burial, with a history of calcite, silica and hematite cementation.
