摘要

This thesis consisted of a literature review of statistically designed experiments and a related case study. The literature investigation focused mainly on history of experimental designs, Taguchi techniques, and prudence that should be exercised when selecting and performing statistically designed experiments. The case study incorporated a combination of sequential analysis and Taguchi robust parameter design to solve a bond failure problem on an optical assembly. ANOVA and average effects analysis were widely utilized to draw conclusions from the experimental outcomes. The sequential protocol was in excess of 1700% more efficient as compared to similar full factorial designs. Case study results yielded optimal factor settings to improve stainless steel-to-glass bond strength by 128%. Incorporation of an ultraviolet adhesive and elimination of unnecessary process steps also resulted in a cycle time reduction from 24 hours to only 5 minutes.
