摘要

The MacKay River Watershed is located in the upper Horsefly River area of the Cariboo region of British Columbia. Riverside Forest Products Ltd. of Williams Lake, BC currently manages the watershed's forests in a sustainable manner assisted by the guidelines set out in the Forest Practices Code (FPC) of British Columbia that was established in 1995, and by meeting ISO 14001 requirements.; Complementing the new code was the establishment of the Forest Renewal British Columbia (FRBC) fund. This funding base was established through additional stumpage rates paid to the Crown by timber harvesting companies and could be utilized to include watershed restoration projects in areas where pre-FPC harvesting resulted in detrimental effects to fish and their environment.; This thesis is based on the British Columbia Overview and Level 1 Fish Habitat Assessment Procedure (FHAP) of McKay River rainbow trout habitat and is intended to not only analyze the impacts associated with pre-Forest Practices Code timber harvesting in the watershed, but to also provide recommendations for future remedial work to occur. The thesis additionally provides discussion on stocked rainbow trout distribution in this previously barren watershed.
