摘要

The general goal of this thesis is the study of electric field assisted nanofiltration, called electro-nanofiltration (ENF). For this, an experimental set-up capable of simultaneously testing four nanofiltration membranes (NF45 or BQ01) was built. The effects of an electric field on nanofiltration performance were studying following a systemic approach. Total and partial retention were investigated using synthetic dye (Sirius F3B) solutions and salt (NaCl) solutions, respectively. The experimental results demonstrated that the application of an electric field had an effect on nanofiltration performance in terms of membrane fouling limitation when the red dye solutions are used or in terms of flux variations for the salt solutions. Mechanisms in ENF were presented, using a new approach based on the conformational properties of the polymer coating. The distinctive behaviour of the BQ01 membrane was reported and discussed. ENF is a new and promising technology, especially in regards to charged molecule fractionation.
