This quantitative study examined the outcome of the military model of mental health services at a military outpatient mental health clinic setting. One hundred mental health records of military personnel seen in the base outpatient mental health clinic for professional services were randomly selected, and the patients' responses on the pre and post administration of the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) were subjected to statistical analysis. Significant differences between pretest and posttest scores on the Global Severity Index, the Positive Symptom Distress Inventory, and the Positive Symptom Total Index scores of the BSI were found. The results of this study indicate that soldiers who received the military model of mental health services made a statistically significant improvement in reducing their personal distress. The improved scores were not contingent on the number of sessions, gender, age, rank, and marital status. The implications for the utilization of mental health services in the military service, including issues of impact on military career, military readiness, and soldiers' skepticism about the usefulness of services, are discussed.
