This qualitative study examined the research question, What is the male's experience of undergoing a traumatic closed head injury? The aim of this research study was to explore the essence of the male's experience of undergoing a traumatic closed head injury. The Phenomenological Research Model was used to investigate the personal and complex nature of the phenomenon under investigation. Data were collected and analyzed using interpretative phenomenological analysis from 12 male research participants, ages 27 to 62, who provided detailed descriptions of the male's experience of undergoing a traumatic closed head injury. Interviews with open-ended questions were tape recorded and transcribed. The primary researcher explored the textural and structural aspects of this phenomenon which resulted in five themes: (1) Becoming adjusted to a different world, (2) Emotional impact, (3) Losses, (4) Uncertainties about the future, and (5) Feelings of disconnection. The identified textural themes depicted a male's experience of living with a traumatic closed head injury. The findings of this research study have significant implications for the fields of mental health, medical training, and education via medical and psychological treatment.
