This project will introduce the possibility of redesigning the interface areas of the C-17 Troop Door Jambs based on data collected from rework and repair hours and from assembly order performances, collected over several ships. The focus is on finding ways to eliminate the actual cause of the audible noise reported by the Air Force during aircraft operation. During the time covered by this project, a major redesign of interface areas was concluded based on DFMA (design for manufacturing/assembly) methods to reduce assembly time and cost, while manufacturing a quality product that meets and exceeds customer expectations.; In order to satisfy a customer complaint, existing processes and designs of the troop doors and jambs are being reviewed and appropriate actions are being taken to eliminate the reported nuisance. PVR (Process Variability Reduction) methods will also be used to control and improve the processes used on the assembly floor by production.
