摘要

The major purpose of this study was to investigate the criterion-related validity of the Alcohol and Drug Use Survey (ADUS) as a tool for identifying appropriate levels of substance use in adolescents. The criterion measures utilized were the substance use subscales of the MMPI-A, which included the MacAndrew Alcoholism Scale-Revised (MAC-R), the Alcohol/Drug Problem Acknowledgement Scale (ACK), and the Alcohol/Drug Problem Proneness Scale (PRO), and the DSM IV substance use diagnoses of alcohol abuse, alcohol dependence, cannabis abuse, and cannabis dependence.; A second purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between perceived parental substance use as measured by the Children of Alcoholic Screening Test (CAST) and adolescents' substance use. A third purpose was to determine relationships between age of first substance use, family use, and subsequent substance problems.; The subjects for this study were 173 male and 61 female adolescents who had been adjudicated to a correctional facility by a county court in Northern Ohio. Their offenses were not necessarily related to illicit substance abuse, but many had a history of such use. The racial composition consisted of 162 non-white and 72 white adolescents. The mean age was 15.24, and the mean age of first use was 12.30.; Results of multiple regression analyses showed that the ADUS significantly predicted the three MMPI-A substance related subscales: the MAC-R (R = .30), the ACK (R = .54), and the PRO (R = .42). Discriminant function analyses revealed that the ADUS significantly predicted group membership of adolescents into each of the four DSM IV substance use diagnoses groups paired one at a time with a group consisting of adolescents with no substance use diagnosis. Classification analyses resulted in overall correct classification rates of approximately 87% for alcohol abuse, 96% for alcohol dependence, 94% for cannabis abuse, and 97% for cannabis dependence, with classification into specific diagnosis vs. no diagnosis groups well exceeding chance rates.; In addition, results showed that perceived parental substance use significantly predicted the MAC-R and ACK. Furthermore, age of first use was not found to be related to perceived parental use nor to subsequent use in general.; It was concluded that this study provided evidence that the ADDS may have criterion-related validity relative to the MMPI-A substance use subscales and the DSM IV substance use diagnoses.
