摘要

Circulating fluidized-bed (CFB) fly ash is a by-product of coal-fired electricity generation from the Nova Scotia Power Incorporated (NSPI) generating station located in Pt. Aconi, Nova Scotia. The objective of this study was to evaluate Pt. Aconi CFB fly ash as a liming material, calcium and boron source for use in agricultural crop production in Atlantic Canada. Trials were conducted at the Enterprise Cape Breton Farm, Point Edward, Nova Scotia. Soil at the site was a Hebert sandy loam with an initial pH of 4.8. Three test crops were grown: radish (Raphanus sativus cv. French Breakfast), rutabaga (Brassica napobrassica cv. Laurentian), and alfalfa (Medicago sativa cv. Apica). Treatments consisted of boron/no boron (main factor), and unhydrated fly ash, dolomitic limestone, calcitic limestone, and unlimed control (sub-factors) in a two factor split plot design. Measured responses included soil pH, crop yield, Mehlich-3 extractable soil Ca, hot water extractable soil B, tissue Ca and B, as well as alfalfa height, rutabaga brown-heart and marketable yield.
