The rapid growth of the Internet and digital multimedia makes communication easier and more extensive than before. People can make and share products quickly and electronically. This presents a strong demand for the protection of copyright and intellectual property for audio, video, image, and document. Image watermarking is a technique that plays a very important role in protecting the copyright of image data.; In this research, a digital image watermarking technique based on the redundant discrete wavelet transform (RDWT) method in the transform domain is investigated. The performance and robustness of this technique is tested through common image processing operations, such as filtering, requantization, halftoning, and common still image compression techniques such as JPEG, etc. Simulation results show that the watermark added by this technique can survive most of the distortions coming from general image processing operations used in this study. Comparisons between this technique and other techniques based on the transform domain methods such as discrete cosine transform (DCT) and discrete wavelet transform (DWT) are also provided.
