The rapid growth of Korean higher education has caused a multitude of problems, particularly in terms of quality education. The interdisciplinary nature of the textiles and clothing field, which requires a more adaptive and flexible curriculum reflecting such dynamic changes as information technology, has created problems. Thus curriculum development can help to improve the quality of education in textiles and clothing.; The purpose of the study was to assess Korean textiles and clothing curriculum in higher education in regard to the current state of the art and future directions in terms of technological influences on the textiles and clothing curriculum. A survey method was employed. The population consisted of textiles and clothing educators at four-year institutions of higher education.; The results of this study indicated that the importance of the educational goals tends to shift from furthering the well-being of the family to nurturing professionals in this field. However most of the schools did not offer specialized majors within the program; over half of the educators indicated that in the future they would like to offer specialized majors. Design & aesthetics was the field of program emphasis with more curriculum offerings and the availability of employment outlets. However, fashion merchandising was perceived as important field of study, most of the schools offered a few fashion merchandising courses and did not provide interdisciplinary courses and related computer studies such as spreadsheet, data base. Although some changes have occurred in the incorporation of computer technology into the textiles and clothing curriculum, only few institutions have offered computer courses for students.; The professional status of the field, its recognition, and its career opportunities are strong features of the program; however, lack of field experience and failure to incorporate computer technology into the field have weakened it. Educators are not availing themselves of the full potential of computer technology, but there was an enthusiastic interest in further education, especially, in computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing. Further, educators were most interested in computer technology inclusion in the textiles and clothing curriculum.; For improving the textiles and clothing program in the future, educators projected the following directions: close connection between textiles and clothing program in higher education and textiles and clothing industry through internship; incorporating computer studies into the textiles and clothing program.
