摘要

Homological dimensions have proven to be a useful invariant when studying rings. If R is a ring, its homological dimensions are found by computing the supremum of the dimensions of all the R-modules. It is well known that it is sufficient to compute the supremum of the dimensions of the cyclic R-modules. In some cases, this class of modules may be reduced further. For example, for commutative noetherian rings, one need only compute the dimensions of the simple modules. In the first part of this thesis, the author exhibits rings in which the homological dimensions may be found by computing the dimensions of a proper subclass of the class of cyclic modules. In the second part of this work, calculating homological dimensions by using a proper subclass of cyclic modules is treated as a property, and it is shown that this is a property which transfers between a ring and its idealizers and subidealizers.
