The focus of this research is to evaluate Applied Behavior Analysis [ABA] techniques to assess the level of effectiveness in young, elementary-age students. The ABA techniques that will be examined are Positive Reinforcement, Token Economy, and Habit Reversal, with young children with Down Syndrome, ADHD, and Tourette Syndrome. According to the literature, it is evident that more research is needed to test ABA use with elementary-age students. Currently, results are mixed showing some significance with Positive Reinforcement, Token Economy, and Habit Reversal with young children with Down Syndrome, ADHD, and Tourette Syndrome. Overall, Positive Reinforcement showed the most clinical effectiveness with students with Down Syndrome, whereas ADHD found significant decrease in disruptive behaviors using the Token Economy. Additionally, Habit Reversal was most clinically significant in reducing tics and stuttering in children with Tourette Syndrome. More research is needed so more results can be gathered and generalized.
