The purpose of this study was to examine the construct validity of the M-PULSE(TM) Inventory's Negative Self-Perceptions (NSP) and Negative Perceptions of Others (NPO) scales by comparing them with selected scales of the MMPI-2. It was hypothesized that the M-PULSE(TM) Inventory NSP scales (Negative Emotions, Negative Actions, and Negative Perceptions) would have a statistically significant relationship with the MMPI-2 Low self-esteem (LSE), Self-doubt (LSE1), Shyness (SOD2), Dysphoria (DEP2), and Irritability (ANG2) scales. The M-PULSE(TM) Inventory NPO scales (Cynical Beliefs, Oppositional Actions, Alienated Attitudes) were predicted to have a statistically significant relationship with the MMPI-2 Misanthropic Beliefs (CYN1), Interpersonal Suspiciousness (CYN2), Antisocial Attitudes (ASP1), Antisocial Behaviors (ASP2), and Social Alienation (Pd4) scales. A Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient revealed correlations between r = -.038 to r = -.562 (df = 2862). Several of the null hypotheses were rejected; however, the negative directions of the correlations do not provide support for the construct validity of the selected M-PULSE(TM) Inventory scales when compared to the selected MMPI-2 scales.
