摘要

This project analyzed near miss data and reporting systems, specifically in the maritime industry. The primary area of focus was near miss classification and taxonomy for several maritime organizations. Secondly, analysis of the components of near miss reporting systems was performed to provide insight into how these components are used throughout the maritime industry. The project also introduced a new technique for categorizing near miss data in an attempt to reduce human error during manual data classification. Lastly, benchmarking data was compiled for the near miss records in order to develop standards for use in the maritime industry. To date there has not been such a detailed study into near misses in the maritime industry, thereby putting this groundbreaking research to the forefront.
