High-gain, low-profile, and easily fabricated, the transmitarray antenna offers many benefits for use in satellite communication systems. To date, however, little progress has been made on increasing the limited bandwidth of these antennas. Therefore, this thesis presents the design of a wideband transmitarray using double square ring antenna elements. Using a combination of both analytical techniques and software simulation packages, this work details the design of the wideband transmitarray and presents general guidelines outlining the use of double square ring elements with respect to the intended application.;The fabricated four-layer antenna shows a 7.5% 1 dB gain bandwidth with a radiation efficiency of nearly 50%. To the author's knowledge, this is the widest bandwidth that has yet been achieved by a transmitarray. With a bandwidth 50% greater than that of an earlier transmitarray designed by researchers at the Communication Research Centre, and with nearly equal radiation efficiency, the transmitarray designed in this thesis shows the potential for double square ring elements in improving transmitarray performance.
