摘要

Dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration is a crucial parameter that reflects water quality in many aspects. DO concentration is important for aquatic wildlife survival and impacts biological and chemical processes in water. This concentration is dependent upon the temperature, pressure, and salinity of the body of interest. Stepped waterways are known for elevated volumes of entrained air. Side-stream Elevated Pool Aeration (SEPA) stations achieve the same results as stepped waterways. Due to the existence of a water pool after each weir, low velocities are witnessed. Such velocities increase the residence time of the water in each pool directly leading to more oxygenation downstream. In this thesis, a Small-Scale Aeration System (SSAS) is presented and designed to increase DO concentrations. The case of Lake Spafford on the campus of the University of California, Davis is analyzed to illustrate how small- scale side-stream elevated pool aeration to improve the water quality of the lake.
