摘要

This qualitative case study focused on one typical learning-centered community college to build an understanding of how the college's external relationships support learning. The study found seven themes that describe how these relationships support learning: external relationships create learning opportunities, create faculty and staff learning, enrich the curriculum, help provide access to learning, provide resources that directly support learning, provide the funding and approvals needed for the college to operate, and create learning benefits for external partners.; The foundation for the study was drawn from the literature bases related to the learning paradigm college, public relations models and theory, and the external relationships in which community colleges engage. The theoretical framework is built on two theories of public relations that frame external relationships in the context of mutually beneficial relationships that exist to help an organization achieve its goals. Recommendations from the study include a model for redefining the public relations functions in a learning-centered community college.
