The methods of linear trend analysis and signal - noise ratio were used to analyze the change and mutation of evaporation capacity in different time scales of Puyang city from 1965 to 2009. The results showed that the annual evaporation capacity decreased at the tendency rate of -13.89 mm/a. The tendency rates of evaporation capacity in spring, summer, autumn and winter were -4.039, -6.378, -2.355 and -1.283 mm/a respectively, and summer had the most obvious decreasing trend in evaporation capacity. The evaporation capacity decreased fastest in June, and slowest in February among the 12 months of a year.
