Dielectronic recombination (DR) is an important electron–ion recombination process. This process is generallyconsidered to occur in two steps,e??+Aq+![A(q??1)+]![A(q??1)+]+nhv ; (1) where in the first step a free electron is captured simultaneously with the excitation of a bound electron. In the second step the doubly-excited ion is stabilized by emitting photons.
