Nanomaterials have received immense interest in recent years due to their vast applications in modern technology. It has been shown that the properties of nanomaterials are quite different from their bulk counterparts, due to their enhanced surface effects, high interface-to-volume ratio, and small size. The interaction between energetic ions and solids has been extensively studied for many years.Recently,a study on the MeV-heavy ion irradiation of gold nanowires in different diameter carried out by our group indicated that the energetic heavy ion irradiation could generate stacking fault tetrahedron(SFT)in gold nanowire, which may heavily affect its lattice structure and electrical properties. In this work,we mainly focus on the irradiation induced SFTs in gold nanowire,as well as its size distributions.
