Cremation was one of the age-old burial customs and generally consisted in burning corpses in bonfires.In the Neolithic Age,cremation was popular in many ethnic groups of the world.The present paper discusses the form and date of the tombs of cremation excavated in China.Combining the results of this analysis with related ethnographic material,the model of characters in oracle-bone in-scriptions and literary records,the author ascertains that the cremation reflected in the Zongri site was related to that of the Qiang ethnic group and may have been the continuity and variation of the latter.
