On account of the research limitation on the traditional fort-type setlements, the more concern on setlement individuals or some single types and the insuficiency of the systematical integration study, the thesis sets up a perspective of setlement formation to classify and arange the diferent kinds of fort-type setlements, and takes a typical case study in Shanxi-Shaanxi area which located in the middle reaches area of the Yelow River. Focusing on the fortification morphology and atribute of the fort-type setlements there, it cleans up the two basic parts, the military defense system and the civil defense system. And then, based on the curent situation of the historical remains, it discusses the features and the spatial distribution of the distinctive subsystem clusters holisticaly.%针对当前传统堡寨聚落研究以个体或单一类型居多、缺乏系统整合的局限，提出采用“群系”的研究视角，从考察聚落的“设防”形态及属性入手，选择具有典型意义的黄河中游山陕地区开展“传统堡寨聚落”的群系研究，整理民防与军防两大体系类型构成，并基于堡寨遗存现状，对特色子系集群的空间分布及特征作以整体性探讨。
