Traditional y, English teaching in China is dominated by a teacher-centered, grammar-translation and audio-lingual method and an emphasis on rote learning. In an attempt to find out what are the most appropriate teaching methods for Chinese students in schools, the paper presents that the best method is to integrate communicative approaches to the teaching of English with traditional Chinese methods. It shows that integrating communicative approaches with the traditional approaches can real y help the students develop their communicative competence.
