After over 60 years of large-scale development of modernization, however, the situation of social and economic development which is stronger in the east than the west of our country does not change fundamentaly. Looking into the future, in order to realize the goal of “later-development but overtaking”, it is of great importance for the west area to select correct regional development path. Starting from long-term development practice and local development environment, the west area should obey the folowing 3 principles to select the path for sustainable development in the future: 1) priority of environmental protection; 2) talent-oriented; 3) market comes first. If so, later-development but overtaking wil have even bigger hope and possibility.%尽管经历60多年的大规模现代化开发，我国社会经济发展东强西弱的局面远未得到根本性的改观。着眼未来，西部地区欲实现“后发赶超”目标，正确的区域开发路径的选择至关重要。从长期开发实践和当地开发环境出发，西部地区未来持续发展路径的选择似应遵循以下3个原则：①环保优先；②人才为本；③市场为大。如此，后发赶超才有更大希望和可能。
