近二三十年来，我国城市规划及建设部门一直没有放弃过对建设城市特色或特色城市的努力。然而，受制于快速城市化的影响，一度使得城市建设淡化了对特色与个性的真实关注。在效率为先的城市化模式下，城市建设既欣欣向荣、硕果累累，又造成大量的平庸城市。现在，无论是规划界还是实务界，都重新张扬起城市特色这面大旗。然而，在针对流弊的学理与实践反弹中，既有些微矫枉过正之嫌，也暴露出理性思辨的有失全面、深入。特色城市固然美好，但不是城市常态。能否建成特色城市，需要因材谋划、因材施治。看待当下又热闹起来的城市特色追求，需要一种全新思维。%In the past 20 or 30 years, the urban planning domain and construction department of our country had insisted on constructing the urban character or characteristic city continually. However, being restrained by the fast urbanization, the attention to the characteristic city and its individuality once had been desalinated in the reality of urban construction. Under the pattern of efficiency for first, urban construction created massive mediocre cities with great achievements. Now, the people both in urban planning domain and practical realm appeal to strengthen the construction of characteristic city. However, the characteristic city is not the urban habit. To complete a characteristic city, it needs not only the material to plan but also the material to treat. It needs one kind of new thought to regard clearly the coming up pursue of urban character in new times.
