Based on an object-oriented technique and by means of middle-ware, format conversion between DICOM data on medical images and conventional image/video files has been accomplished. As a result, the current large number of imaging facilities that do not accord with DICOM standard in Chinese hospitals can be linked to PACS easily. Inversely, the DICOM data acquired by digital imaging facilities can be easily converted to conventional images/ media files.
