Competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) regulate other RNA transcripts by competing for shared microRNAs.They might be coding RNAs or non-coding RNAs including long non-coding RNAs, pseudogene transcripts, and circular RNAs.Recent discoveries reveal the important pathophysiological roles of ceRNAs in prostate cancer , colorec-tal cancer, melanoma, glioblastoma, liver cancer, breast cancer, etc.We discussed the molecular mechanisms of ceRNAs in cancers and their possible applications .In addition, several databases and algorithms , such as ceRDB, Linc2GO, star-Base, RNA22 and Hermes, have been developed for the convenience in ceRNA investigation .
