The thermodynamic processes undergone by olivine, the chief mineral of subducting slabs, are important in rnstudying the mechanisms of deep-focus earthquakes and the interaction between slabs and the surrounding mantle.rnWe propose a modified coupling scheme to calculate the thermal and phase structures of slabs, which presents rna high computational' accuracy at an accessible CPU expense. Using the new code of computation, we have rncalculated the thermal and phase structures of the Kurile subduction zone.
