Chinese language is taught at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel for more than 25years. Although the beginnings of Chinese language and civilization studies in Jerusalem can betraced to the early 60’s, the Department of East Asian Studies at the Hebrew University ofJerusalem was founded in 1968 by Prof. Zui SCHIFFRIN, a well-known scholar, whose researchfocused on Sun Zhongshan (Sun Yat-sen). Prof. Schiffrin assembled under one roof scholars who specialized in the fields of Chinese andJapanese studies, and thus established a full department, whose members conduct research workand instruction side by side.
