Wang Xingyou, together with Zhang Lunyuan and Xu Wenshi, were reputed as the most outstanding collectors of river stones in the Repubic of China, contributing a great deal to the river stone culture and collection. Wang Xingyou (1876-1948) was the most outstanding among the three, with great attainment in the appreciation, evaluation and collection of river stones and put forward the idea of appreciating river stone by its texture, color and veins. He also had his own ideas in naming the stone. His works“ On River stones” was regarded as the most valuable writing for appreciating river stones.
