The operating principle of traditional monitoring technologies for the local scour around piers in alluvial rivers is studied systematically in the paper.Internal and external factors that influence the monitoring precision and effect for local scour are analyzed thoroughly on the base of pre-existing re-search findings.Theoretical foundation and effectiveness of novel monitoring technologies proposed in the recent years are explored in detail.%系统地研究了桥墩局部冲刷所采用的传统监测技术的工作原理，并结合已有的研究成果深入分析了影响传统技术冲刷监测效果的内在和外在因素，也对近年出现的新型冲刷监测技术的理论依据和有效性进行了深入探讨。
