Suburban highway accident occurs frequently, causes massive personnel casualties and economic loss, so safety improvement is urgent. Accident-prone identification is the first and the most important step of safety improvement. After analyzing the characteristics of suburban highway accidents,this paper use principal component analysis method to comprehensively analyze the four accident indieators , then identify the accident-prone sections of suburban highway. Using this method in a Shanghai suburban highway as a case study, results show that the urban and suburban transition section is the most dangerous section.%城郊公路交通事故频频发生,造成了大量的人员伤亡和经济损失,亟需进行安全改善.事故多发段鉴别是进行交通安全改善的第一步,也是最关键的一步.在分析了城郊公路事故特征的基础上,利用主成分分析法对事故四项指标进行综合评价,从而确定事故多发段.对上海市某城郊公路进行了实例分析,结果表明:市区与郊区过渡段是城郊公路安全问题最为严重的路段.
