Both decrease and increase of sediment yield were observed in main tributaries basins of the Middle Yellow River as basin area increases. Bio-climatic and morphologic features exert most important control on the relationship between specific sediment yield and drainage basin area. Sediment yield data from various environments show different trends of variation in sediment yield for loess. rock and rock/loess mixed regions.
