在自然语言中,语言既有精确的一面,又有模糊的一面。在日常英语交际中,模糊限制语作为模糊语的一种表达形式,频繁出现在口头及书面表达中,是一种常见的语言现象。模糊限制语的恰当使用可以缓和语气,含蓄礼貌地表达作者写作意图,从而更好地改善和维系交际双方的人际关系,使交际顺利进行。在写作中,模糊限制语存在于各种文体之中,社论报道也不例外。文章结合英语报刊社论实例和报刊英语文体特点,分析了模糊限制语在社论报道中的语用功能。%In any natural language,there exists the phenomenon of fuzziness.Hedges,as an important part of fuzziness,appear in both oral and written English.The proper use of hedges can implicitly indicate the writer＇ intentions and reduce the tone politely to maintain a good relationship with the reader.The study of hedges has done in many genres and now comes to the genre of English news editorials.The paper tries to use some examples to probe into the pragmatic functions of hedges in news editorials based upon its genre conventions.
