Caesalpinia sappan belongs to Caesalpiniaceae evergreen tree and is a precious native tree in tropics and subtropics ,which has the biological characteristics of rapid growth , large increment , strong adaptability and improving wood soil , etc . This article summarizes the researches on the Caesalpinia sappan's biological characteristics ,the seedling and afforestation technology , and the exploitation and utilization of tree species . In addition ,the article puts forward some research directions in the future ,including the Caesalpinia sappan's selective breeding ,growth rhythm ,wood properties and forest management ,which further explore the species'potential and provide the technical guidance for the main producing area's afforestation .%指出了苏木属苏木科常绿乔木，为热带、亚热带珍贵乡土树种，具有生长迅速、生长量大、适应性强、改良林地土壤等生物学特性。对苏木的生物学特性、育苗造林技术、树种的开发利用等方面的研究状况进行了综述。提出了今后苏木良种选育、生长规律、木材材性及林木经营管理等方面的研究方向，为进一步挖掘该树种的潜力，为主产区造林工作提供技术参考。
