王蒙的《活动变人形》批判了中国文化的消极一面。“国民性”就是消极文化的一种表现。但作为批判对象的“国民性”其实是一个不确定的概念，于是它带来了有关批判本身的困惑。走向“现代性”是这场批判的理想结果，“现代性”却因这场困惑的批判变得可能无所归依。因此，有必要对批判本身做一个再解读，厘清王蒙批判背后的一些关键点。唯有如此，“现代性”才不至于沦为空谈。%Wang Meng criticizes the negative part of Chinese culture through his fiction Movable Parts. The national character is one of the targets he criticizes,but it causes some confusions in criticism for it is not definite in meaning.“Modernity”is an ideal result of this criticism,but it does know where it should go for this confused criticism.Therefore it is necessary to interpret the criticism itself to make out some key points behind Wang Meng‘s criticism,and only in this way can “modernity”be meaningful.
